THE CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS

1) Which were the belligerents of the Cuban missile crisis and how long was it?

The Crisis lasts 16 days and the belligerents were:
- United States and Turkey supported by United Kingdom, West Germany and NATO
- Soviet Union and Cuba

2) Explain the two major causes of the Missile Cuban Crisis

The soviet decision to deploy missiles in Cuba can be broken down into two categories: Soviet insecurity and the fear of losing Cuba in an invasion. Nikkita Khrushchev had always known that The United States had more missiles than the Soviet Union, so he was feared of a first-strike by the U.S. If the Soviet Union lost the arm race, it would invite a first-strike nuclear attack from the U.S
Also a Cuban invasion was something that both Fidel Castro and Khrushchev wanted to avoid. Cuba’s President was aware of the several attempts the U.S wanted to make it; the first one was the failed Bay of Pigs invasion, by a CIA-Trained force of Cuban exiles, and then occurred a military exercise, a mock invasion of a Caribbean island to overthrow a fictitious dictator.
Those actions were created to keep Castro nervous, so, as a result, Fidel Castro was convinced the U.S was serious about invading Cuba.

3) What was the aim of the blockade or “quarantine”?

The aim was to prevent the Soviets from bringing in more military supplies to Cuba.

4) When do you do consider the missile Cuban crisis began?

It began when Cuba elected Castro such as Prime minister, the worst thing that Castro made was started to have a closed relationship with The soviet Union, for this reason the Us started the crisis

1. Hard liners seized control of the Soviet Union
